About Conversational Italian for Travelers Books
Our first series of books published by Stella Lucente, Conversational Italian for Travelers, is unique in that it serves to teach the Italian language in a gradual, understandable way, and can be used as a reference book for frequently used expressions spoken by Italians today.
Three main sections describe the information covered: “Transportation,” “City Life,” and “Hotels and Restaurants” — with three full chapters on how to read Italian menus!
The textbook offers enjoyable reading as we follow our main character Caterina, a young Italian-American woman, through her travels in Italy. The textbook includes cultural notes about important places and events that Caterina encounters during her trip.
Several books in the series contain excerpts from the larger textbook in the format of smaller reference books. These books include Just the Important Phrases (with Restaurant Vocabulary and Idiomatic Expressions), Just the Grammar, and Just the Verbs, for those who want only select material. These books are also available on Amazon.com and Learn Travel Italian.com.
The companion Audio Dialogue Practice Books (Volume 1 for beginners and Volume 2 for intermediate students) are now available in softcover or for download, with the audio for each phrase soon to be uploaded to the Internet. These practice books are great for the classroom as an aid to get students to start talking. They are filled with conversation-type examples that correspond to the grammar and verb sections in each chapter of the textbook. Audio will soon be available on the Learn Travel Italian website.

As she boards planes and trains, and finally takes a ride in her cousin’s car, we learn how to do these things in Italian. When she meets up with her Italian family, we learn phrases for communicating with others, including what to say if you meet someone special, how to go shopping, and how to use the telephone. Finally, Caterina goes on a trip to Lago Maggiore with her Italian family, and we learn phrases needed to stay at a hotel, go sightseeing, and of course, go to a restaurant and order wonderful Italian food!
